KA manufactures new pallets from lumber supplied by sawmills that responsibly harvest wood, ensuring sustainable forestry by planting new trees. We also source wood from thinning operations, which helps maintain healthy forests by utilizing trees that need to be removed, protecting forests from wildfires, invasive species, and diseases.
Additionally, we only purchase wood from honest and responsible partners who share our commitment to sustainable development.
After a pallet has been used multiple times and no longer functions as intended, our specialists repair it by replacing blocks or broken boards to extend its lifespan. This process not only conserves trees and reduces waste, but also emits the lowest amount of greenhouse gases (carbon emissions)—contributing only about 10% of the total Global Warming Potential (GWP) over the entire pallet lifecycle. For comparison, approximately 90% of the GWP in a pallet’s lifecycle comes from new pallet production (these findings are based on research published by Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology).
KA dismantles non-standard or heavily damaged pallets and repurposes their components to create restored pallets of any size. We call this process “Wood Reuse” or “Extending the Wood Lifecycle”, as it gives pallets a second life within our clients’ supply chains.
This type of pallet is highly eco-friendly by nature because it allows us to reuse wood that has already reached the end of its initial lifecycle. Without our restoration process, this material would end up as solid waste in landfills or be shredded and incinerated.
When a pallet reaches the end of its lifecycle and can no longer be repurposed, our team processes it into wood chips for use in heat or energy production.
According to the Wood Pallets EPD, this stage has the potential to offset all greenhouse gas emissions and Global Warming Potential (GWP) generated throughout the pallet’s lifecycle.
Every day, we explore new ways to reuse wood without destroying it, as we believe this is the future. We are currently researching secondary production solutions, ranging from mulch to fire-starting wood chips, and we plan to launch production in the near future.
